Associated dataset to "Exploring the accessibility and significance of a Rotliegend deposit to Stone Age communities in Lieth Moor, Germany"
This associated dataset contains four parts:
1.: Ground Penetrating Radar Dataset of Lieth Moor
Description: Data acquisition was carried out in three field campaigns in 2022 (April, July, and August)
2.: Legacy Core Data of the Elmshorn Area, Schleswig-Holstein
Description: The data originate from multiple legacy sources, including governmental borehole databases Intended use:
3.: Legacy Archaeological Site Locations of Lieth Moor
Description: Each point represents the approximate location of an archaeological site, Intended use:
4.: Regional Rotliegend depth model of Lieth Moor
Description: The model was derived from the Base Quaternary map after A. Grube (1997) and the Prussian topographic land survey (1878) as a Palaeo-DEM. For further details please refer to Detjens et al. (2026) section 3.2.
This dataset comprises ground penetrating radar (GPR) data acquired at Lieth Moor,
southeast of Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The data were recorded for the
associated scientific publications and are intended for archaeogeophysical landscape
reconstructions, particularly gyttja and Rotliegend clay mapping.
using a 200 MHz GPR system. The survey consists of 2D GPR profiles with an approximate line
spacing of 5–10 m. Depth penetration varies spatially and is primarily controlled by
subsurface moisture conditions and clay content. Further details on the survey design,
processing, and interpretation are provided in Detjens et al. (2024) and Detjens et al. (2026).
This dataset contains digitised borehole and information from Quaternary geological
investigations in the Elmshorn area, Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany.
The dataset comprises borehole locations, depth information, and sedimentological
descriptions of individual subsurface layers.
and unpublished or university diploma theses. Original sediment descriptions were standardised
and translated into English to ensure consistency across the dataset and to facilitate comparative analysis.
Each record is associated with a unique borehole identifier (UWI).
Regional-scale geological and sedimentological analyses, subsurface stratigraphic correlation,
and contextual support for Quaternary geological mapping.
The dataset is not intended for site-specific engineering applications or geotechnical design.
This dataset contains point representations of legacy archaeological sites in
the Lieth Moor area, northern Germany. The shapefile was compiled for regional-
scale geostatistical analyses conducted in the associated publication
investigating red Rotliegend clays and prehistoric site distributions.
The data are derived from the ALSH Landesaufnahme and were re-evaluated and
temporally attributed by members of the CRC 1266 B1 project.
which may correspond to a collection of finds, a monument, or a single artefact
occurrence, depending on the original documentation.
Regional spatial and statistical analyses.
The dataset is not intended for site-scale interpretation or excavation
planning.
This dataset comprises a geotiff file of the Rotliegend depth model used as an input for geostatistical analyses within Detjens et al. (2026).
