Geophysical Data (EMI, ERT, Seismic): Multi-method prospection in Olympia, Greece
Geophysical surveys were undertaken in October 2021 and September 2023 investigating an area located south of the excavated Sanctuary of Olympia. Due to its position between the two rivers Alpheios and Kladeos, the sanctuary was covered by several metres of sediment (mainly silt and sand) after its abandonment, which complicates exploration and excavation. During geophysical and geoarchaeological campaigns in 2021 and 2023, an integrated multi-method approach containing Electromagnetic Induction, Electrical Resistivity Tomography and shear-wave seismic measurements, aiming specifically at looking below the thick sediment cover. This repositoy contains the raw data files. EMI data was measured with the GF Instruments CMD-Explorer. Positioning was done using a Stonex s9i RTK-GNSS GPS. The specific measurement configurations are noted in separate text files.
ERT profiles measured with the Syscal Switch 48+ (Iris Instruments).
Seismic profiles measured with Geode seismographs (Geometrix).
The coordinates of the start and end points of profiles are in the Coordinates.txt file as well as the coordinates of coring sites and the EC log.
